Wrexham AFC have had a meteoric rise through the English football leagues since their celebrity buyout in 2020.
In 2021/2 they reached the playoffs from the Conference (the fifth level of English football) but lost out on promotion
In 2022/3 they won the Conference and were promoted to League Two (the fourth level of English football)
In 2023/4 they came second in League Two and were promoted to League One (the third level of English football)
Their new season is kicking off tomorrow (10th August) and runs until 3rd May. They will be playing in League One and hoping for promotion to the Championship. Three teams are promoted - the top two and the winners of the playoffs.
How many seasons will they spend in League One? Will they be promoted at the first time of asking? Will they spend a few years in League One before they are able to get promoted? Or will they be relegated from the league?
Market notes:
This will resolve to the number of consecutive seasons that Wrexham spend in the third tier of English football starting from the 2024/5 season. So if they are promoted this season, it will resolve to 1. If they are relegated from League One in 2025/6, it will resolve to 2. If they go bankrupt and withdraw from football part way through the 2026/7 season (meaning they are ineligible to compete in the following season), it will resolve to 3.
If the leagues are renamed or reorganised, this market will continue to reference the league that is most analogous to the current League One. So if this team had been about the Second Division in 2003/4, it would start referencing League One in 2004/5
