The new Plaza Stage in CommuniCore Plaza at Epcot opened on June 10, 2024 with a show entitled "¡Celebración Encanto!". The problems with this venue became immediately apparent upon its opening:
The viewing area for the stage lacks permanent shade, so temporary umbrellas were added.
The rear of the stage is open to a primary thuroughfare, so most guests approach it looking at the backs of performers.
In order to access the viewing area from the primary thuroughfare, guests must pass beside the stage in a narrow area including a food and beverage location and shade. Because this space also fuctions as the access to the stage for performers and it provides a good view of the stage, multiple theater operations personnel must direct traffic for the area to remain open.
Sound and music from the stage at night bleeds into the neighboring central courtyard of the park, which has a light show synchronized to music. The performances at the stage make the plaza viewing area extremely noisy and unpleasent, reducing the areas available to view the light show.
For these reasons, I think this brand new venue will either be abandoned or substantially modified. I will not vote in this market. It will be resolved to YES if at the time of close, it has no regularly scheduled shows, or if it is substantially modified to block the view from the rear of the stage, add shade, or reconfigured to be viewed from the center of the park (abandoning the purpose-built viewing area). If something else happens to this stage, I will discuss how it should be resolved with market participants.
This market will close on October 1, 2025.
