Yes: Vivek Ramaswamy holds an official position in the White House during Donald Trump's second term. This includes any official role within the executive branch of the U.S. government that is nominated or appointed by the president. Including, but not limited to: Cabinet Secretaries, Senior Advisors, Press Secretary, Deputy Secretaries, and Chief of Staff.
No: Vivek Ramaswamy does not hold any official position in the White House during Donald Trump's second term.
I'm surprised people are betting this up? The announcement is pretty clear:
DOGE will provide advice and guidance from outside of government, and will partner...
Trump giving him a position that is explicitly "outside" government should make it less likely, not more, that he'll hold a position in the white house, I'd think?
@Ziddletwix That statement doesn’t rule out appointing Vivek and others to official executive government roles. Vivek could hold an official position while facilitating the “advice and guidance from outside of government”.
NPR says: “While it is not yet clear whether this entity will exist within the federal government or outside, an official government agency cannot be created without an act of Congress.”
It’s too early to tell the mechanics of “DOGE” and Trump is still in the process of selecting his cabinet.
I personally think it’s likely Trump will appoint Vivek to an official position while also forming a separate group (whether official or unofficial) of business leaders to provide advice.
@Riley12 It’s possible, though I’m not sure if Vance would win the 2028 Republican presidential primary if he runs.
I believe he has a bright future in the Republican Party, but I don’t see him as charismatic enough to win the presidency.
@AdamCod Well I think you're wrong. Who would win the primary over him? I actually knew multiple ppl who said they were voting for Trump and hoping smth happens so Vance becomes president
@Riley12 Vivek and Don Jr. are more likely to be the Republican presidential nominees in 2028 than JD Vance imo
@Riley12 Trump will be the kingmaker (assuming he’s still around in 2028). It might not be Don Jr. but I don’t see him supporting Vance as his successor.
Obviously Vance will be his successor in the event that Trump doesn’t make it through 2028, but there’s a big difference in what makes a good presidential candidate vs. VP.
@zzq A Deputy Secretary is an executive branch official nominated by the president, meeting the 'yes' criteria. I've clarified the description to remove ambiguity. Let me know if there's any other position you're unsure about.
EDIT: changed “appointed” to “nominated”
