Not whether or not the military action was originally self-defense, but as of March 25th.

Given Hamas still exists, yes.

@Najawin Wow, so if Hamas is never fully destroyed then Israel will be perpetually capable of justifying literally anything they do to Gaza as self-defense? Do you not see how that makes it literally impossible for there to be any accountability for the IDF for anything they do? And are Gazan civilians not entitled to self-defense?

Are the lives of Israeli civilians more valuable or more worthy of self-defense than Gazan civilians? That is precisely what a YES answer on this question means. Collective punishment is NOT self-defense, its collective punishment, and it is a serious crime. Putin is charged with war crimes for removing Ukrainian orphans from Ukraine to Russia, while Netanyahu and his coalition claim there is no such thing as innocent Gazan civilians?!? That is totally fucked and morally indefensible.

@BTE Ah, here we go with the blatant misunderstandings of both what others said and of the situation.

"if Hamas is never fully destroyed then Israel will be perpetually capable of justifying literally anything they do to Gaza as self-defense"

I did not say this. I said that currently this is still the case.

"And are Gazan civilians not entitled to self-defense?"

If Gazan civilians are targeted, yes, they are, of course. Please, demonstrate this. Nobody is ever able to.

"Collective punishment is NOT self-defense, its collective punishment, and it is a serious crime"

Sieges are not collective punishment and are legal under international law.

"while Netanyahu and his coalition claim there is no such thing as innocent Gazan civilians"

I believe that was Herzog, not Bibi? Certainly some of the lesser ministers or Knesset members have said similar as well, but, well, how do I say this... None of them are on the War Cabinet, so none of them are even slightly relevant.

@Najawin Smotrich is in the war cabinet and has been the head of security in the West Bank settlements for years and he is the most outrageous of them all.

@Najawin Gaza police attacked by Israel detailed in this WP story.

@BTE Smotrich is not on the War Cabinet, what on earth are you talking about? He's on the Security Cabinet. This is such a fundamental misunderstanding of the issue that it calls into question your entire framework for understanding the conflict. If you've been thinking Smotrich has been setting Gaza policy this entire time, no wonder you think there's a genocide. But Smotrich and Ben-Gvir have absolutely no influence over this war. They do have influence over current policy in the West Bank, which is often insane, I fully agree with that.

"Gaza police attacked by Israel detailed in this WP story."

I mean, you buried the lede there.

'Satterfield said Israeli forces had killed as many as nine Palestinian police officers involved in protecting aid convoys, including a commander. Police include “Hamas elements” he said, but also people who are politically unaffiliated and remnants of Palestinian Authority forces.

Asked if police guarding aid convoys were a target, the Israel Defense Forces said: “The IDF is operating to dismantle Hamas military capabilities. Elements involved in military activity may be targeted.”'

If they're involved in military activities they're definitionally not civilians. So you've still failed to demonstrate what was asked of you.
