Obviously it's not a bad starting place, but I've just been hearing from various personal experiences that they wish they would have gone a different route in medicine or a different field altogether. I am currently working hospice as an aide, and I enjoy it immensely.

Working as an RN has crazy benefits, depending meaningfully on where you live. You only work 3 days a week (albeit 3 grueling days), you can make great money in overtime, you have the opportunity to do travel nursing if you're into that and make good money. It's also easy to work part-time if you ever want more flexibility.

One thing Em has learned is pay varies a lot by where you live. $25 an hour in Utah is $40 an hour in Dallas is $80 an hour in SF. Mandated staffing ratios make all the difference in her life too.

predicts NO

Room for advancement is harder, but you can always become a nurse practitioner or go into management if you're wanting more responsibility/ something different.
