Resolution criteria

This market resolves to YES if Brazil's Supreme Court official decisions, judgments, or legal documents on their official website or digital platforms remain behind a CAPTCHA verification system by December 31, 2026. It resolves to NO if the Supreme Court removes the CAPTCHA requirement for accessing these materials before this date.

Background

Brazil's Supreme Court (Supremo Tribunal Federal) has recently implemented CAPTCHA verification for accessing court decisions and documents on their digital platforms. This appears to be a measure to prevent automated access to their systems, potentially as a response to concerns about AI scraping or automated interactions with their digital resources.

Considerations

The implementation of CAPTCHA technology represents one approach to managing digital access in an era of increasing AI capabilities.

I submitted a request via the Access to Information Law (LAI), and they responded as follows:

"We inform you that in recent weeks, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) has been the target of an increasing number of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. These attacks aim to overwhelm and disrupt systems, compromising both the availability of information and data security. In response to this threat, we have adopted the use of captcha as an additional security measure to protect our systems and ensure service continuity. Although we understand that entering a captcha may require extra effort, this measure is crucial to ensuring the integrity and availability of STF's digital services.

Lastly, I would like to emphasize that the STF is integrated with the Judicial Branch Services Portal—JUS.BR. Through this portal, users can obtain information on all ongoing judicial proceedings in Brazil, including the STF’s public data."
