Donald Trump has now been ordered to pay $83 million to EJ Carroll. That is on top of the $5 million he was sentenced to pay last year in her defamation lawsuit against him.
This question will be resolved when Trump has either paid or has been acquitted by another court.
If EJ Carroll dies, this question will resolve with the amount of money she has received at the time of her death.
According to George Conway on X:
It could take years to collect the $88.3 million in judgments against Trump. That is true, except in the following sense: Carroll could sell the right to collect the judgments to someone else, who would acquire the rights to the proceeds and assume the obligation of managing both the appellate proceedings and the efforts to attach Trump’s property. Even at an appropriate risk-adjusted and time-value-adjusted discount, this could be a mutually advantageous transaction both for the 80-year-old Ms. Carroll, as well as for the judgment collector, with E. Jean getting immediate liquidity and the collector getting any upside on the back end (which would include the very high interest rate provided for by law).
@Marq Reid Hoffman would probably take that deal since he funded the suit in the first place. I also think if Trump tries to appeal he is likely going to be forced to present a surety bond for the full amount similar to what Giuliani was ordered to do recently in his defamation judgement for $140mm.
@BTE It would be great to see both EJ Carroll and Hoffman happy 😆
Hoffman is such a nice guy that just wants to connect people.
I hope for a win-win-lose solution. Preferably before election.
@Marq I like it when we are totally on the same page! Those Wagner markets still sting but I should have taken your council instead of doubling, tripling, quadrupling down. 🤦🏼♂️
@BTE No hard feelings.
I have made a similar mistake with Russian ruble exchange bet. The combination of online arguments and patchy knowledge can zap away one’s sense and mana.
@ClubmasterTransparent Yes. The question is about how much EJ Carroll receives from the lawsuit.
If Trump is able to fund race the whole amount from his MAGA base or from big donors it will count as long as Carroll receives it.
