Will count as a YES if Typescript is in #1 position in the end of year Octoverse report.

If the Octoverse report is for some reason unavailable, an alternative source will be used to resolve this question.

Once type annotations land natively in JavaScript, TypeScript will go the way of CoffeeScript. Unless TypeScript can almost double overall adoption in the next 2-3 years, this is a confident NO.

@nettika It'll get type annotations, sure, but all that means is that you won't have to strip the types from your code anymore. You'll still need to pick a type checker, and I'd be very surprised if an alternative overtook Typescript in that role anytime soon.

@Solecontro what if some other language is number 1, but typescript beats JavaScript?

@BoltonBailey I wrote in the description that for this market to be resolved as YES it must be #1

@Solecontro Thanks. Just wanted to clarify that the market is not only about overtaking JavaScript. Another question: is this any year before 2030, or just the 2030 report? If typescript were to be number 1 next year, I would probably say it had become most popular “by 2030”.

@BoltonBailey That's a good point - yes, if it happens at any point before 2030 this will resolve as a YES
