"next console" is the successor to the Nintendo Switch. This question is only talking about at launch bundles, not the special editions released past the initial release of the console.

edit: limited to 2024 because I don't want this to go on indefinitely. The question resolves to NO if Nintendo doesn't release their next console by 2024, or if Super Mario Oddyssey 2 isn't a launch title.

edit2: realized the question made it sound like the question resolves on 31 Dec, 2023. Fixed that.

It's been 6+ years since the release of the Nintendo Switch. It's at the end of its life, the hardware can't keep up with the ambitious deals Nintendo is supposedly doing with 3rd parties to port their games over (recently Microsoft), and none of those ports are coming for the switch. There were also rumours about Nintendo trying to procure parts to create prototypes for their next console.

I'm pretty sure it's releasing by the end of 2024. I think Tears of the Kingdom is going to be farewell for the Nintendo Switch and it would make zero sense for them to not have been working on the next Mario game, and if the new Zelda is not a launch title, the new Mario game is sure to be one.

The only thing I'm worried about is Nintendo doing a surprise drop of the new console at Zelda's release, and market it as the "recommended" way to play Zelda as the Switch can't keep up.

@sacredSatan I don't think it's gonna be called "Super Mario Odyssey 2", but there will be a 3D Mario at the launch of the Switch 2, no doubt. Also they will release DLCs for Zelda TOTK and there will be a "deluxe edition" of the game for the new console with the DLC included. The DLC will drop at the end of this year and the new console at the start of 2024.

@SpaceAge that makes a lot of sense. They just announced a 2D mario so that being a launch title is out of the question. Unless they drop something like a new mario kart, a 3D mario game being the launch title is a safe bet.

I do think it'll be related to odyssey though, even if it isn't called odyssey. We'll see cappy, and that'll basically make it odyssey 2.
