Resolution Criteria

This market will resolve based on the official name announced by Nintendo for their next major gaming console (the successor to the Nintendo Switch). The announcement must come from an official Nintendo source, such as a press release, Nintendo Direct, or official social media channels.

When adding answers, please ensure that your answer is one specific unique name. For example:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 ✅

  • Has a number in the name 🚫

  • Switch Attach ✅

  • A name that has previously been rumored 🚫

For the purposes of this market, the word "Nintendo" is ignored. For example, "Switch Attach" and "Nintendo Switch Attach" are identical. Answers that differ only by the word "Nintendo" will be deemed duplicated and invalidated. If the name is "Switch 2", that would resolve in favor of "Nintendo Switch 2". If the name is "Nintendo Swiitch", that would resolve in favor of "Swiitch".

Spelled-out numbers and numerals are also considered identical. If the name is "Nintendo Switch Two", that will resolve in favor of "Nintendo Switch 2".

The close date is provisional and may be extended if the correct resolution is not known by market close.

Considerations

  • Nintendo has historically used varied naming conventions for their consoles, from sequential numbering (NES, SNES) to completely new names (Wii, Switch)

  • The company sometimes uses working titles during development that differ from the final product name (e.g., "Revolution" became "Wii")

  • Trademark filings may appear before the official announcement but may not reflect the final product name

@Robincvgr not sure why your limit order wasn’t triggered here (I bought it back up to 56% myself)

@snazzlePop i was out of mana

@Robincvgr just fyi, if you’re ever looking for a loan, there exists a black loan market: [🕵️LOAN🤫LAND💸](https://discord.com/channels/915138780216823849/1194385337510797432)

@snazzlePop thank you for pointing me there!

@jim Did the 3DS look different to the DS? Just because "Switch 2" looks similar to Switch 1, doesn't mean it lacks a distinguishing feature 🏮🏮

just opened a limit order ;)

So Nintendo will stick to doing something weird and unexpected by, this time round, actually doing what would be expected of any other manufacturer? Cunning.

bought Ṁ10 YES

I'm going to be so disappointed when this isn't the name.

there are roughly a 200 possible names and no particular reason to favor switch 2 🤷

Conditional on trusting the r/NintendoSwitch2 mods' verification abilities, Switch 2 is very likely the name. Do I trust that the r/NintendoSwitch2 mods aren't being fooled? No, it's definitely not 100%, not even 80%. But Switch 2 being the name is far from unsupported

(FYI I'm not the one who disliked you)

This is a pretty well-trodden market that seems to put some stock in this

bought Ṁ20 NO

Nintendo has never used sequential numbering for their consoles. They don’t tend to for their games either. (Only recent ones that comes to mind is Super Mario Galaxy 2, or Pokemon Black/White 2, but I’m sure there are more.)

@OP if you wanna put up a NO order at, say, 40%, i'd love to fill it

opened a Ṁ250 NO at 40% order

@Robincvgr locked and loaded. Just 250 for now.

@OP I think that can partly be explained by two things:

  1. Most consoles were significantly different than previous versions in form factor/media type, justifying a unique name.

  2. Some versions of handheld consoles were named to signify the difference from previous iterations, when the form factor was not changed, like Game Boy Color or 3DS.

They did kinda do it with the DS, 3DS, and 2DS, not exactly sequential unless sorted by number instead of release date.

In this case, it looks like the Switch 2 has retained the form factor, and doesn't have the type of features (color case, 3D) that influenced the name of other versions.
