YES

For source, I will use The Numbers 2024 (domestic) weekend tracker: https://www.the-numbers.com/box-office-records/domestic/all-movies/weekend/released-in-2024

For each weekend, the page lists a "No. 1 Movie". This market resolves YES if there is any movie in 2024 listed for 4 different weekends on this page (however they calculate it).

In 2023, three movies were #1 for 4+ weekends at the box office:

  • Avatar: The Way of Water was #1 for 5 different weekends.

  • Barbie & Super Mario Bros were #1 for 4 different weekends.

In 2024, as of February 16th, Mean Girls has been #1 for 3 different weekends.

@Ziddletwix any chance you can resolve this one today? I'm a little mana-poor at the moment :)

@polymathematic good catch! after it was clear deadpool would fall behind alien's OW, tbh i totally forgot that it might bounce back in the quiet part of late august. (and post deadpool i had been guessing that no film might make it in the more crowded fall)

my only concern now is that if Deadpool keeps getting holds like this, I'm gonna get crushed in the domestic Deadpool market :)

I try to be precise with my questions, but I realize the question & description are a bit ambiguous about an edge case here. My apologies!

  • The question refers to "2024 movie", which often implies "movie released in 2024".

  • The description is unambiguous: what matters is if there is any movie that has 4 different weekends at #1 DURING 2024. I.e. this would exclude a December 2024 release that has some of its #1 weekends in January 2025.

The description is very clear (& was my intent), so I'll stick with that. I'm rewording the title to exactly match it: "Will any movie be #1 at the box office for at least 4 different weekends within 2024?" (No longer "2024 movie", but "within 2024").

If there was any confusion caused by this, please LMK, and I'll try to fix that. But I hope the description was clear enough the whole time.
