This question will resolve as YES if renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, hydropower, and geothermal, collectively surpass fossil fuels, including coal, oil, and gas, as the primary source of energy worldwide by the end of 2050. The determination of primary source will be based on the total global energy consumption from each source.

The question will resolve as NO if fossil fuels remain the primary source.

How will you count synthetic fuels that are generated from solar power? As in, carbon capture from the atmosphere and turning it into natural gas

The resolution of this question will be based on data and reports from reputable sources such as the International Energy Agency (IEA), the World Energy Council, and other relevant organizations. So look into that to find out.

predicts YES

Hard to tell right now how exactly they'd be reporting in 2050. For things like this, interpretation matters. It would be helpful to know your stance on synthetic fuels since you're the one creating the market, and thus the one to ultimately decide on ambiguities.

Very true. I'll allow that synthetic fuels that are generated from solar power through processes such as carbon capture from the atmosphere and turning it into natural gas will be counted as renewable energy sources for the purpose of this question. The determination of primary source will be based on the total global energy consumption from each source, including synthetic fuels.

predicts YES

@kian_spire Thanks for the clarification! We'll have to make sure the synthetic fuels don't get double-counted in fuel consumption as well as solar for fairness, but that's a practical problem for the future :)
