Joshua Kimmich is a strong German soccer player. However, his qualities as a midfielder are often disputed. It is widely known that he wants to play as a midfielder. Recently in Bayern Munich and German National team games, Kimmich had to play as a defender. So will he play as a midfielder for the German National team at the UEFA Euro 2024 or will he stay a defender throughout?

Resolves YES, if Kimmich plays as a midfielder in one of Germany’s games at Euro 2024. This will be judged on basis of the game footage. He does not have to start as a midfielder.

Resolves NO otherwise.

I will not bet in this market.

my football knowledge is limited but isn't modern football very dynamic and semi-positionless not unlike nba basketball? i.e barring say the keepers and center forwards everyone is playing some role in midfield/defence. can you give me an example where it's clear a utility player like Kimmich is playing "as a midfielder"?

I have absolutely no clue about basketball, so I can’t compare.

I think the positions or at least tasks or roles in each phase of the game are distributed among the players, especially in the defense. The defensive lines are usually very visible when watching a game. Also, before every game, a line up is released and journalists still talk a lot about 5-4-1, 4-4-2 or 4-3-2-1 line ups. I think you’re right that modern soccer is quite flexible throughout the phases in the sense that a defender also has an important role when in possession of the ball and so do strikers, when playing against it. But you can make out the differences in the jobs, i.e. being on the right and running the line up and down (what I’ve seen Kimmich do so far) or being central, in front of the defensive line, distributing the ball (midfielder like Kroos).

The clearest way for this market to resolve yes, would be if he’s on a midfield position in the line up. Another option is that either the positioning changes in the game (e.g. changing from a four player defensive line to a three player line) or a midfielder is replaced by a defender that takes his place and he goes on to play on a midfield position/role.

I hope this answer is sufficient and that the smart soccer experts here will correct me where I might be wrong.

ah, quite clear indeed. just checked sofascore and had no idea Kimmich was playing as a RB...in that case it's relatively trivial to figure out if he's changed into midfield

Germany’s next game is tomorrow. Kimmich played right defender throughout their first match, but who knows what’s going to happen, right?

You're not getting me again with your speculating. LOL. No all the way.

Kimmich played right defender in both matches before the Euro 2024. @traders maybe someone wants to adjust their bets? I’d say this one is free mana, sad I don’t bet in my markets 😅

sold Ṁ4 YES

Wow, interesting. Guess we'll have to explore this.
