The strongest hurricane to hit the US in the 2024 season has been Beryl as a Category 1 (note that while the hurricane was a Cat. 5 at one point, it only struck the US as a category 1).
What strength hurricanes will hit US land during the 2024 season? All correct answers will Resolve YES once landfall has occurred.
Clarifying Details:
This counts both Atlantic and Pacific hurricanes.
The landfall must’ve occurred within the season (by the end of Nov 30th, local time) to count.
The US has a lot of land, including Hawaii and 16 territories, all are eligible here.
A hurricane that weakens from one category to the next, over US land, will count for both categories.
@traders it looks like Helene reached the Gulf Coast of Florida as a category 4, and weakened to a cat 1 over land. accordingly i’m inclined to resolve both cat 4 and cat 3 as YES as:
A hurricane that weakens from one category to the next, over US land, will count for both categories
though basically no one is talking about the brief period where it was a cat 3.
i’ll leave this open for a day or so to make sure i’m not missing anything. if you think this isn’t the right decision, please opine!
Cat 2 occurred
